Choosing Schools

My friend recently heard back from a couple of schools he applied to unfortunately he did not get into his school of choice which was UC Davis. He now has to choose between Fresno State University and UC Merced. He plans to major in Bio Chemistry and apply to medical school after graduation. Which school will give him a better shot of getting into medical school?

Christian,

Your friend should look at the medical program that each university offers. They should go on their websites and look at their programs and check to see what percentage of their pre-med students get into top medical schools. They can always reach out to other pre-med students to get their testimonial. Www.google.com and www.yahoo.com are also good places to research top medical programs.

Your friend should also take into account, that they can always try transferring to UC Davis if that is their first school of choice.

Please let us know if you have more questions.

Best of luck!

Hi Christian,

In addition to Jazmin's suggestions, I would suggest that your friend pay a visit to each school if possible. He can meet with academic counselors who can answer all his questions in depth and provide some additional guidance. Your friend can ask what percentage of students are accepted into medical school and other similar questions.

He will also be able to get a better feel for the campus and student life and which school would be a better fit for him. He can get a tour of the campus and academic buildings, and also ask to speak with current students planning on going to medical school and professors in the science department.

Hope this helps!
