Getting a D in college....

In my freshman year I received a D in one of my GE requirements. This quarter they are offering the course, but i dont know whether I should retake it again. I have been taking chinese just because Im interested in learning the language. So I if I retake the class that I got a D in then I wont be able to take chinese this quarter because I cant exceed more than 15 units which is 3 classes. The reason I am considering retaking the course because I want to raise my GPA and Im afraid it will affect me for when I apply to graduate school. As for chinese class the reason I also want to take it this quarter is because they only offer Chinese 3 which is the level I am in, in the spring. I dont know what would be best to take, either retake the course or continue with Chinese.?

Ana,

If the retake class is a class that is part of your requirements and will increase your GPA, then I would highly encourage you to retake this class. You can always continue learning Chinese after your graduate. Remember that your general requirement classes and major requirements are very important so focus on those. You always want to work on getting a high GPA so you can become a better candidate for graduate school.

You can always discuss this with your school advisor so they can provide their perspective.

Best of luck!
