Getting intership in computer/ electronic engineering

Posted by Piter
Hello, my name is Piter.

I have been looking for some kind of opportunity to apply to an internship in the Computer/electronic
engineering Technology field. I am also open to apply to any kind of
scholarship that would sponsor me or help me out with some expenses or
courses that I need to finally complete my major and then proceed to a
master since I am almost in my senior year.

I want to thank you for your time and interest in helping us someway,
I am looking forward for your answer. I also want you to know that weather
you are able to help me or not, I really appreciate the fact that you open
your doors to me and my friends to listen and to try to help us somehow.

Thank you one more time,

Hello Piter,

I am glad that we are able to provide you with helpful advice!

In regards to your question, please consider the following points:

* Check out job/internship search engines to look for an internship in your particular area of interest. You can try Idealist - www.idealist.org , and Monster College – www.college.monster.com.

* Use www.google.com or www.yahoo.com to conduct your own search. Use phrases, such as “computer engineering internship” or “technology internship”. Look up organizations that focus on science and see if they offer internships. For example, the National Science Foundation (NSF) offers a summer internship - [www.nsfstc.org].

* Go to your advisor to see if they can give you information on internships. Talk to professors to see if they can direct you to other opportunities. Your school may also have listings of internships so ask about those.

* Use our website to find internships and scholarships. For internships opportunities, go to “useful links” and click on the subcategory “HISPANIC ORGANIZATIONS” - [www.latinosincollege.com]. Here you will find a list of organizations that provide internships, scholarships and mentoring services. Make sure to check out each one and see if they apply. For scholarships, you can go to the topic “paying for school” and look at each subcategory. I would suggest starting with www.fastweb.com.

I hope this information helps.

Good luck!

Hi Piter,
In addition to the great advice Jazmin provided, I'd like to point out to you that many corporations are looking for top Latino talent to start them off in internships and then offer them jobs. One of them is Procter and Gamble www.pg.com. They have several internship programs. So does Nielsen, the market research company. www.nielsen.com/us. And Verizon, the phone company www.verizon.com.

You may want to identify a few companies that you'd like to explore and visit their websites to look for internship opportunities. Your top choices should be companies that are in communications and technology but keep in mind that most large companies have a need for people with your major. Some to explore: Motorola, Exxon/Mobil, Google, AT&T, T-Mobile, Microsoft, Apple, Yahoo, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in NY, and also smaller companies in your own area.

Good luck!
Mariela
