Advocacy and citizenship engagement
April 23, 2011 02:29PM
I attended a conference organized by the Chicano Caucus at Princeton this weekend and heard doctor Andrade from USHLI talk a lot about getting involved with local organizations or elected officials in order to affect change in the community. I'm interested in these issues of advocacy. Would you be able to recommend some organizations I could get involved with in the Boston area? I'd like to help get more Hispanics registered to vote on the next election.

Maria,

It is great that you want to get involved in advocacy! There are numerous organizations or coalitions that you can get involved with. The best way to find your match is to conduct research on the organization that lines up with your interests. Here are a few sites that can guide you in your search:

www.idealist.org
www.volunteermatch.org
www.google.com or www.yahoo.com - type in phrases, such as "advocacy organization Boston, MA" or "Latino voter registration volunteer" (or other similar keywords)

Finally, I would encourage you to check our main page and click on tools for future success. Check out Hispanic Professional Associations or Leadership Development.

Good luck!
