I know that some of my friedns who go to a high school in a rich negiborhood go to visit universities like Yale and MIT but my school doesn't organize tours tehre. How can I go with other schools? Or do I have to go by myslef? We live in New Jersey and is not easy to travel so far. Thank you.

Hi Vicente,

You may want to contact those schools and ask if they allow other students to participate in the visits. I am not sure how possible this is, but asking never hurts!

Otherwise, there are many ways you can mitigate the costs. Maybe some of your friends are interested in visiting some of the same schools as you. You can coordinate a trip and share expenses. You can also contact the schools admissions offices directly and see if they have any programs to help with the costs. However, you usually have to be admitted to have the schools help with costs. You can also approach your school administrators or counselors and let them know you are interested in college visits and ask if they know of any other students who might be interested. If they realize there is an interest, they may be able to coordinate a trip or two. There may be other students who want to make college visits as well!

If visiting schools in-person is not an option, you can always visit the school websites and see if they offer virtual tours. Ask the admissions office if they have a student you can contact and ask about their experiences and opinions of the school.

I hope this helps.
Best,
Amber George
