Hi Licio,
Colleges like to see that you have participated in extracurricular activities and/or volunteer work. This shows that you are a well-rounded person and are responsible. Some high schools and/or colleges also have volunteer work requirements. You should check with your guidance counselor or the college admissions office to verify their specific requirements.
Some examples of extracurricular activities include: playing sports at your school or through recreational leagues, clubs (language clubs, math club, key club, etc), writing for your school newspaper, working on your school yearbook, tutoring, etc.
Some examples of volunteer work include: volunteering your time and services at senior homes, soup kitchens, churches, elementary schools or other non-profit organizations (Red Cross, Boys and Girls Clubs, etc). Also, organizing food drives, clothes drives, book drives, toy drives, and the like. There are also seasonal volunteer opportunities with organizations like the Salvation Army who needs extra help during the holidays or clean-up efforts during the warmer months. If you have a break from school, there are also trips you can take to help people in need. When I was in high school, I went on a trip where we helped repair a worn down orphanage in Mexico.
I hope this information helps!
Best,
Amber
