Summer

Hi Latinos in College, I love what you do! I'm a high school sophomore in Texas. What would you suggest that I do over the summer? I'd like to use it productively but my parents don't have money for any special camps.
Thanks!
Isabel

Hi Isabel,

The summer is a perfect opportunity for you to get involved!

I would highly recommend that you volunteer with an organization of your interest. Figure out what some of your interests are. You can either go to your local library or community center who can direct you to some volunteering opportunities. Some examples are the following:

    [*] animal shelter
[*] Hospital or related organization, such as American Red Cross
    [*] Children's museum

You can also check out sites, such as www.volunteermatch.org where you can look for opportunities in your area. You can check off that you are looking for availabilities open for teens.

Good luck!

Isabel,

As Jazmin mentioned, volunteering during the summer is an excellent opportunity. I currently hold an advocate internship position and it is time consuming, yet enlightening and rewarding! What I may also recommend is that you begin doing some research and determine what colleges you are interested in attending. Visit their official school website and look for specific admission requirements. Along with that, determine what your financial status looks like and if you are short on money like myself begin looking for scholarships you may qualify for.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
