Single father need some advice

Hi, my name is Ricky and I'm a single father of two daughters who are in 9th and 10th grade. My wife died a few years ago and I'm raising them on my own as best as I can given that I work two jobs. They are now in high school and I encourage them to go to college but I don't have the means to pay for expensive schools. What are the best options given my situation? they are really good students, very involved with extra curricular activities and I would hate them ending up in a community college just because I don't have the time to investigate more for them, or find them resources they can use. I appreciate your time to provide me with some guidance. Ricky.

Ricky,

Fortunately, there is government aid and "need-based" scholarships that are available for your daughters. There is no reason they should not apply to a university because of financial issues. There are many students whose education are funded due to their parent's economical status.

Once your daughters begin applying to college, they will need to fill out a FAFSA form, which is federal aid. You can get more information visiting the website at [federalstudentaid.ed.gov]. Please take into account that a lot of "expensive" universities provide great financial aid packages so your daughters should not limit themselves.

Finally, your daughters should visit our main page and click on the category "paying for school." They will find some helpful information and a list of links to scholarships. I would suggest they start of with www.fastweb.com where they can create an account and be matched up with scholarships.

Do not feel that this is an obstacle for you or your daughters. There is a lof of financial help out there! Make sure they do their research and apply for scholarships.

Good luck!
