It is mandaroty to have SSN to have US State Scholarships?

As a parent of 2 girls, good students at High School, I would like to know, if my daughters would be elegible for Scholarships in FL Universities. My current Visa E2, doesnt give them the access to SSN. But they are legal residents, and have identified excellent places to go College, but need some help to make it happens.

Hi Walter,

No it is not mandatory to have an SSN to apply for scholarships; however, you must be an eligible non-citizen:

1) U.S. Permanent Resident with an Alien Registration Card (I-551)
2) Condition Permanent Resident with an I-551C Card
3) Arrival Departure Record (I-94) from the Immigration and Naturalization Service

As long as your daughters meet any of the prior criteria, then they are able to seek financial aid and apply for FAFSA (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/fotw0809/help/fotw15a.htm).

I would also encourage your daughters to visit our website under the tab "Resources". There they will find another link, "Scholarships and financial aid" which contains a list of scholarship opportunities.

Good luck!
