Hispanic College Enrollment Reaches Two Million, Latinos Are Largest Minority On Campuses
According to a report by Pew Hispanic, "data shows more than 2 million Hispanics ages 18 to 24 were enrolled in college last year, making up a record 16.5 percent share of enrollments in that age group at two-year and four-year universities." For the full article visit the link.
   
USHLI & University of Phoenix Scholarship
University of Phoenix is working with the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute (USHLI) to offer a scholarship program that include five full scholarships. To be eligible students must pursue either an undergraduate or master´s degree at University of Phoenix and be recommended by the USHLI. Application deadline is June 26, 2013. Hispanics are crucial to college completion goals
According to an article in The Washington Post written by Daniel de Vise, statistics show that Hispanics are rising up in college attainment. "From 2001 to 2011, the number of Hispanics with at least a bachelor’s degree nearly doubled from 2.1 million to 3.8 million, and overall attainment rose from 11 percent to 14 percent." GE LNESC National Scholarship
"The GE LNESC Scholarship Program awards $5,000 scholarships to qualified minority students who are enrolled as business or engineering majors leading to a bachelor’s degree...who will be classified as college sophomores in the fall." "$6 Brochures Help Steer Latinos To Premium Universities"
According to an article on Fox News Latino, high school students from low income families are not applying to Ivy league schools because those universities are not recruiting them. Studies showed that the probability of these students applying to a college that matched their educational abilities increased with $6 informational packet. 11.1 Million Latinos Turned Out to Vote in 2012
USHLI reports that, "...we can be proud of our increase of 1.4 million more Latino votes cast in 2012 than in 2008. Black voter turnout increased 1.7 million, and Asian voter turnout increased 550,000. Non-Hispanic whites actually saw their turnout decrease by two (2) million. Youth voter turnout declined among all race groups, but especially among Non-Hispanic whites and Hispanics." For the full article visit the USHLI link.
   
Hispanic High School Graduates Pass Whites in Rate of College Enrollment
High School Drop-out Rate at Record Low The Pew Research Hispanic Center reports that, "A record seven-in-ten (69%) Hispanic high school graduates in the class of 2012 enrolled in college that fall, two percentage points higher than the rate (67%) among their white counterparts. As recently as the class of 2000, only 49% of Hispanic high school graduates immediately enrolled in college the following fall." For the full article visit the Pew Hispanic link.

Dr. Juan Andrade, Jr. Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders
2014/2015 Academic Year "Students attending or accepted to an undergraduate four-year institution are eligible for a $1000 scholarship. Students attending or accepted to an undergraduate two-year institution are eligible for a $500 scholarship. In addition, recipients will receive a scholarship to attend the 32nd National USHLI Conference in Chicago, IL." Visit the USHLI link for details on requirements and qualifications. The 2013 GenOn / USHYEE Educational Grant is for a Latino high school Senior who intends to study Science, Technology, Math or Engineering (STEM) related fields in college. Latinas Learning to Lead Program
National Hispana Leadership Institute (NHLI) "The NHLI’s LLL program annually selects 22 Fellows. Session topics include effective communication and presentation skills, advocacy training, public policy issues affecting the Latino community, and other professional and leadership development topics, such as financial literacy and career opportunities." HSF Scholarship Programs The Hispanic Scholarship Fund is the nation’s largest provider of college financial aid for Latino students. They provide students with information on the Gates Millennium Scholars as well as scholarships for graduating high school seniors, community college and college students. Hospital for Special Surgery Summer Internship Public and Patient Education The Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) , is known as one of the premier musculoskeletal centers in the nation. HSS is offering a college internship program in the Education & Academic Division created to provide a student the opportunity to gain practical experience in health education and public health. This internship will give students the opportunity to develop skills in health education, data collection, and program implementation.
   

3 Steps to Getting Financial Aid

Step 1 is to submit the FAFSA, step 2 is to find out if other financial forms are needed and step 3 is to search and apply for private scholarships.
