CONGRATULATIONS TO
Justin Pequeño

Winner of our Round trip to Puerto Rico

My name is Justin J. Pequeño and I am a rising senior at Tufts University concentrating in Psychology and American Studies. I am the second oldest in a family of 7 children and the first to go to college. I come from McAllen, Texas, which lies on Texas' most southern border with Mexico.

Within my majors, I am studying Comparative Race and Ethnicity and Social Psychology – an interesting combination that has a lot more interconnectivity than one would think.

I plan on pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology (hopefully from the University of California, Berkeley) and starting my own practice in Child Psychology in an under-resourced community such as my own. I feel that I have gone through many experiences in my own life that would allow me to relate to my patients and guide them through their recovery stages.

Over the past few years I have done a lot of volunteer work with kids through Frida Inc. It is through this non-profit organization that I realized that I want to dedicate my life to helping children develop properly despite economic disparities.

I first came across Latinos in College on Facebook when I noticed that a few of my Latino friends became fans. As Latinos we are often an invisible minority that has little to no resources or accessibility to resources regarding college information, both as applicants or undergrads. I really like that Latinos in College works as hard as they do to make sure that these resources are readily available.

Thank you Latinos in College!
